COVID-19 Updates

  • Nome Public Schools Students, Families, and Staff - Per a memorandum from Commissioner Johnson of the Department of Education, Governor Dunleavy has mandated closure of all public schools across Alaska through the end of the 2019-2020 school year due to the public health emergency. All after school activities, school community facility use, as well as international, out-of-state, and in-state school funded travel for staff and students are also cancelled through the end of the 2019-2020 school year.

Nome Public Schools staff are returning to work on Monday, March 23rd, practicing isolation and social distancing to keep each other healthy. Staff will spend next week collaborating on how to best provide instruction for our students in our new "distance" situation. Teachers and principals will be communicating out to our community as our plans come together. Families should plan to hear from someone at your school at least once directly the week of March 23rd (phone call, email, etc.). If your contact information has changed since your child's school registration, please contact your child's school secretary (NES - 443-5299, NBHS 443-5201, ACSA 443-6198) to update your information.

We are committed to academic instruction for our children. By keeping students active, creative, and maintianing the positive learning relationships with teachers and staff, our students will continue to succeed in their learning. There will be many questions which arise over the next few weeks around grades, make up work, graduation, etc. Please be patient with us as we work to address those questions as we all work through these unprecedented circumstances. We want to make the best decisions possible for our children.

NPS cares deeply for the well-being of our children, and appreciates the community's support in this difficult time.  We are STRONG, TOGETHER.

    Thanks.

    Jamie S. Burgess
    Superintendent, Nome Public Schools
