Nome-Beltz Nanook News

As part of our continuing efforts to prepare faculty and students for possible violent intruders the school Administrators and Staff recently completed training / discussions on several Department of Homeland Security offerings. The link below is the video that Nome-Beltz High School staff used for this discussion / training event.

Online Bullying

Dear Parents, Families, and Guardians,

I would like to make parents and families aware that there have been several cyberbullying incidents at Nome-Beltz Jr/Sr High School once again. Students have been targeted by others online with an app called “After School”. The creator of the app has made it difficult for adults to access the posts, however we do receive screenshots from concerned students. A picture of the app icon is below:

Please take the time to speak with your child and check their phone for “After School”. There are parental controls that can be set and it is always good practice to know what your child is doing online and on his/her phone. Each student also has the power and option to delete an inappropriate post, whether he/she made the post or not.

We take these incidents very seriously. Information has been forwarded to the Superintendent and a complaint has been filed on the afterschool.com website. Junior high and High school can be very exciting and positive, but social media sites can play a role in diminishing this experience. Adolescents and teenagers may not fully realize the impact that one’s words can have on another, so we are asking for your help in monitoring the apps the students use.

If you have any questions you can contact me at 443-5201.

Thank you, Teriscovkya Smith
